Shops

Role playing as a shopkeeper and a customer can be a zero-prep creative activity. A table can be the shop counter and you can use a shopping bag as a basket - or just use your imagination! Children can make up prices and decide what the shop sells. You don't even need physical items to 'sell', you can pretend, or use things you have at home. You can use actual money or bottle tops, buttons and scraps of paper. You can make it as simple or involved as you want to - the shop can sell only fruit, toys or even only things that are red to get your child thinking. You can encourage problem-solving by asking what happens if you run out of an item.
